Zion Hill Track

Off we went once again to the Waitakere Ranges Regional Park, this time to hike the Zion Hill Track.  This 8 km loop track had it all: vistas, bush walk, wetlands, cliffs, black sand and the beach.

Some of you may think we'd be bored hiking through so much similar nature.  ARE YOU KIDDING???  It may all look the same to you in the pictures, but I assure you, we ooh and ahh time and time again.

Some "not boring" examples of what we saw:

Starting to climb the Zion Hill Track

View of Karekare Beach--spot the red parasail aircraft?

View of the same beach further up the trail

Along the bush track with my trusty sticks

Amazing fern forest

Stick that looked like a dragon

Hanging stick that looked like a snake

Skinny fern tree

Gnarly trunk

Exiting the bush towards the wetlands and the beach

We walked on boardwalks through the wetlands

Old tramway tunnel

Towards the beach

Cliffs

Black, black sand

Finally to Karekare Beach where they filmed "The Piano"

Baches (vacation homes) overlooking the beach--lucky people!!!

  1. Variety of vistas indeed. Glad you got to Karekare Beach. I can still visualize The Piano being carried along there. What a stunning place, eh? Amazing photos.
